"Parents' plea" a drama: medicos
By Our Correspondent
KAKINADA,
JAN. 18.
Striking junior doctors have described the so-called "parents' opposition to strike" as a drama `enacted' at the behest of the Health Minister, Kodela Sivaprasada Rao.
At a press conference here on Sunday, K.V.N. Ramesh, T. Siddardha and D. Kalyan, action committee leaders, alleged that only a handful of parents opposed the strike. Of them, one is a director of GSL Private Medical College, Rajahmundry, and others were parents of students of that college, they said, adding private college managements were naturally against the strike as they were thoroughly exposed with inadequate infrastructure and faculty.
They also denied the charge that medical students were participating in the strike under coercion of seniors. Renuka, Swapna and Sirisha, undergraduates, told newsmen that they were voluntarily participating in the strike with the consent of their parents.
Mr. Siddardh and Mr. Ramesh said that 95 per cent of the students were able to convince their parents on continuation of strike.
