Goud asks naxals to show sincerity

By Our Staff Reporter

NELLORE, JAN. 18. The Home Minister, T. Devender Goud, has made it clear that the Government will have no objection for talks with extremists, provided they are held in a way of settlement.

Addressing a press conference at Allipuram village, about 4 km from here on Sunday, he alleged that the earlier talks with representatives of extremists had failed as naxalites, in the guise of talks, were beefing up their supply of weaponry, besides indulging in acts of extortion.

Also, there were attempts to build up the cadre. Mr. Goud claimed that a number of documents in the possession of the Government confirmed it. He said that any talks should pave the way for a reasonable settlement and the Government had no objection for such talks.

About the threat of extremists to stall the process of coming Assembly elections, Mr. Goud pointed out that naxalites made similar threats in vain earlier also.

About the performance of the police network in the State, he said that the set-up was being modernised in a big way.
