VIJAYAWADA, JAN. 18. The Communist Party of India (CPI) has criticised senior public servants for announcing their intention to contest elections while they are in service. The CPI leader, K. Narayana, said here on Sunday that a few IAS and IPS officers had made public their intention to contest elections. Such officers were bound to misuse their powers to help the party, the ticket of which they were seeking. He urged political parties to announce that such persons should work for a minimum of five years as an activist to make them eligible to get the party ticket. He demanded judicial probe into the police firing in Salur of Vizianagaram district. Mr. Narayana criticised the Health Minister, Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, for his remarks that he had nothing to do with the agitation by junior doctors. He said the State had asked the Centre for release of Rs. 972 crores and 20 lakh tonnes of rice for cyclone relief. But, the Centre had released only Rs. 115 crores and 2.5 lakh tonnes of rice till date. He wondered if the Centre was delaying the release of relief due to lack of confidence in the State Government.
