Rich tributes paid to Kadidal Manjappa

By Our Special Correspondent

SHIMOGA, JAN. 18. The Lokayukta, Justice N. Venkatachala, on Sunday paid rich tributes to the former Chief Minister, late Kadidal Manjappa, who, he said, became a role model for people in public life with his sterling qualities, high morale, and integrity.

Inaugurating the Kadidal Manjappa Sabha Bhavan constructed at Harogolige in Tirthahalli taluk at a cost of Rs. 16 lakh, he said Manjappa kept a low profile after his retirement from active politics.

"But it is significant to note that he continued to fight corruption in public life," he said and added that Manjappa would always be remembered for introducing the Tenancy Act. Manjappa was aware of the pitiable conditions of tenants as he himself was a tenant, he said. The Act piloted by him benefited 90 per cent of the tenants, he added.

Mr. Justice Venkatachala said Manjappa proved his mettle both in the legal profession and politics, where he rose to occupy several responsible posts both in the Congress and the Government. The Lokayukta noted that Manjappa would be a source of inspiration for the younger generation.
