TIRUPATI. Jan. 18. Solemnity marked the 8th death anniversary of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) founder, N.T. Rama Rao, in Tirupati on Sunday. In keeping with the former Chief Minister's long association with the temple town, his followers and fans put up pandals and portraits at several junctions and offered him floral tributes. Besides his portraits in saffron robes, the ones as Lord Krishna, Lord Rama, Ravana, etc., were also put up at the pandals. As its tribute to NTR, the Chittoor District Chess Association organised a chess tournament in his memory and also instituted a trophy in his name. Among the participants were his one-time close follower and former SAAP Chairman, P.R. Mohan, and the association's secretary, Thyagaraja Pillai. NTR's portrait was also unveiled on the occasion. TDP leaders led by the District Minister, B. Gopalakrishna Reddy, observed the day by garlanding NTR's statue at the Town Club junction. Speaking on the occasion, he asked people to rededicate themselves to the values that NTR cherished during his lifetime. Free poor feeding was also organised at some places by partymen. Our Chittoor Correspondent adds: Several leaders paid rich tributes to the late leader and recalled his services to the State at different functions held in the town. The TDP Election Committee member, B.N. Rajasimhulu, the Municipal Chairman, Chengalaraya Naidu, and other leaders spoke. Cuddapah: The district TDP president, K. Sivananda Reddy called upon party functionaries to strive to further the goals envisaged by the late leader. He inaugurated a poor feeding camp for nearly 2,000 persons in the TDP town unit office organised by the TDP town vice-president and municipal councillor, B. Arifulla. Earlier, Mr. Sivananda Reddy, the Rajya Sabha member, S. Ramamuni Reddy, and the State secretary, S. Goverdhan Reddy, and others garlanded NTR statue at the NTR circle here. Mr. Goverdhan Reddy, the district TDP secretary, S. Harindranath, and other leaders distributed fruits and bread among patients in the Cuddapah Government hospital. TDP leaders of Proddatur too distributed fruits and bread among patients in the Proddatur Government hospital. The former MLA, S. Raghurami Reddy, and others garlanded a portrait of NTR and paid rich tributes at Mydukur.
