BANGALORE, JAN. 18. The Minister of State for Minorities Welfare and Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy, M.L. Ustad, on Sunday said that a separate wing for taking up research in Unani and Ayurveda would soon be started in the State. Speaking at the inauguration of the Poornayu Ayurveda Hospital at Rajajinagar here, the Minister regretted that adequate research in these fields had not been taken up. Probably, that was why the Indian systems of medicine had not gained popularity in the country, he said. Mr. Ustad said he would soon lead a team of officers to Kerala to study the development of these systems there. "Kerala is known for adopting these systems in a better way. We will study their methodologies and try to implement them here," he said. Later replying to questions from presspersons, he said that stringent steps would be initiated against quacks in the State. Mr. Ustad said he was aware that some Ayurvedic hospitals were also running illegal massage parlours. Such hospitals would be identified and action taken against them, he said.
