CHENNAI, JAN. 18. The corporate quiz, organised here today by the Rotary Club of Madras jointly with The Hindu Business Line, was a keenly contested event featuring about 40 teams from many companies. Apart from testing the knowledge and skills of the participants on a wide range of issues associated with business, including advertising and marketing, the `quiz for a cause' had separate sections devoted to the audience. It was conducted by the Club in aid of its charity activities. Almost an equal focus of the event was on encouraging the audience to participate, with even the scorecard displaying the points earned by them. Prizes, in the form of lunch coupons of a five-star hotel, Internet starter-packs, dictionaries and CDs (compact discs), awaited those in the audience who gave the correct answer. But, it was the team of Ajay Kasargod and Mitesh Agarwal from the Cipher Consulting that walked away with the top prize worth Rs.95,700, including refrigerators, wrist watches, cupboards and free air travel from Chennai to Colombo and return. The winning pair of IT (information technology) professionals, who scored 83 points, is also eligible for a few days stay free of cost at a star hotel in Colombo. The first runner-up Citibank team, consisting of Anil Kothuri and Srinivasan Rajagopal, received prize worth Rs. 71,000, including a 20-inch television, air travel by Indian Airlines from Chennai to Kochi, stay at a five-star hotel in the Kerala city and leather goods. Anthony Jacob, Deputy Managing Director of Royal Sundaram, one of the co-sponsors of the event, presented the prize to the team, which scored 75 points. The prize for the second runner-up, totalling around Rs.37,700, including a video CD player, was bagged by the Sify team of Piush Jha and Vishwajeeth, who scored 55 points. It was presented by the president of the Rotary Club of Madras, D. Sudhakara Reddy. Other three teams - Sanmar, Infosys and Facts and Fiction - that made it to the finals also received prizes. The one-man team from Tata Consultancy Services, Mumbai, eliminated in a tiebreaker after he tied up with Sanmar for the sixth spot in the finals, was given a special prize. Mr. Reddy said, the club was organising a corporate quiz for the first time and the event was part of its platinum jubilee celebrations. Touchtel, CavinKare and Tata Consultancy Services were the other co-sponsors of the event. Bharat V. Epur of Quiz Walahs conducted the quiz, which included a few questions based on audio-visual clues and those requiring the contestants to jumble the words for getting the correct answer.
