COIMBATORE, JAN. 18. The date of public auction of the sniffer dog Rana of the Coimbatore City Police has been postponed to January 23. The eight-year-old sniffer dog Rana retired from service today. With an illustrious service of having attended to 487 calls during its five-and-a-half-year service besides the one-year training, Rana was originally scheduled to be sold in auction today. Prospective bidders and buyers sought postponement of the date, since January 18 happened to be a Sunday. Since it came immediately after three days of Pongal holidays, some of the buyers had expressed reservations in making themselves available for the auction, hence the decision to defer the auction to January 23 at 10.30 am, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Record Bureau), A. Mahendra Singh, said. Interested buyers could approach the City Police Dog Squad in-charge Sub-Inspectors N. Karnan and K. Manian, and remit Rs. 1,500 as refundable deposit for participating in the auction.
