Rupee edges up
MUMBAI,
JAN. 19.
The rupee rallied from the early low and ended with mild gains against the U.S. currency today, backed by bunched up weekend dollar supplies, but trading was relatively quiet at the interbank foreign exchange market ahead of the Martin Luther King holiday in New York.
Closing at 45.4075/4175 a dollar, the rupee gained nearly a paisa from last Friday's close of 45.4150/4250 and a sharp rebound from the early low of 45.4450/4550.
It opened on a weak note at 45.44/45 per dollar, reflecting the greenback's smart weekend rally against major global currencies, particularly the euro.
The Reserve Bank of India fixed the reference rate for the U.S. currency at Rs. 45.41 and for the single European unit at Rs. 56.25. PTI .
