Sabarimala season ends

By Our Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA, JAN. 19. The two-month-long annual Mandalam-Makaravilakku pilgrim season at the Lord Ayyappa Temple at Sabarimala came to a close with the Athazha pooja this evening.

The Neyyabhishekom offering to the presiding deity was stopped following the Kalabhabhishekom on the Ayyappa idol prior to the Utcha pooja on Sunday. There was no rush at the holy hillock today. The Padipooja and Udayasthamana pooja were the special rituals held.

The sanctum sanctorum was closed by the Melsanthi, Gosala Vishnu Vasudevan, after the rendition of the sacred lullaby, Harivarasanam, after the Athazha pooja.

The Travancore Devaswom Board authorities returned the Thiruvabharanam to the royal representative from the Pandalam Palace, Makayiramnaal Rajaraja Varma, for taking it back to Pandalam.

The Ayyappa shrine will be open at 7 a.m. tomorrow to facilitate the customary exclusive darshan for the royal representative.

No other person will be permitted to have the holy darshan along with him.
