Commemoration meeting

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JAN. 19. The CPI will organise a meeting to commemorate the freedom fighter, veteran Communist leader and former Minister, Kanthalottu Kunhambu, on Tuesday.

The CPI leaders, P. K. Vasudevan Nair and Veliyam Bharghavan, are among those who will address the commemorative meeting at the Transport Employees' Union hall.

Essay contest winners

The winners of the State-level essay contests on "Adulteration and consumer protection" conducted by the Thiruvananthapuram Jilla Upabhoktru Samithi in connection with National Consumer Day have been announced. Arun, G. Vijayakrishnan and Purushotthama Kamath have won the first, second and third prizes respectively.

The awards will be presented at a function on World Consumer Day in March, the samithi general secretary, D. Venugopal, said in a statement here today.

Orthopaedics' conference

The 23rd annual conference of the Kerala Orthopaedic Association, "KOACON-2004", will be held here over three days from January 23. The theme of the conference would be "Overcoming failures in modern orthopaedics".

Population policy seminar

The State Resource Centre will hold a seminar on "Prospects on implementing a population policy in Kerala" on January 24. A module on adolescent education published by the UNICEF will be released at the function to be inaugurated by the Labour Minister, Babu Divakaran.

Monitoring system

The Saraswathi Vidyalaya Higher Secondary School has introduced a unique interactive online system which allows parents to access all information pertaining to their children. According to a press release from the school authorities, the facility would initially be available to parents of children studying in Classes 8 to 12. It would be extended to all classes later.

Merchants' association

The Kaithamukku unit of the Kerala Vyavasayi Ekopani Samithi held on January 18 has elected S. Vijayakumar the president and L. Suresh Kumar secretary for the 2004-06 period.

Trust elections held

The following persons are among those who have been elected office-bearers of the Neerakatthala Sree Bhadrakali Devi Kshetram Trust: K. Vasudevan Nair, chairman, K. Samabasivan, vice-chairman, and D. Ravindran Nair, secretary.

Office-bearers elected

G. Sasidharan has been elected the president of the Mannammoola Vivekanandapuram Residents' Association. M. S. Rajan has been elected the vice-president and G. Mohanan Nair the secretary.
