Road safety programme

KOCHI, JAN. 19. A road safety awareness programme, sponsored by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, was held at Sacred Hearts College here today. Joseph Pooneli, Principal of the college, inaugurated the programme. P.N. Raj, joint RTO, Thrissur, conducted a class on road safety. A quiz competition was also held on the occasion.

Fire at Vimalavanam

A fire that erupted this afternoon at Vimalavanam, located off Kochi city, was put out by Fire Force personnel. An officer at the fire station of the Cochin Port Trust said that the fire had begun at around 2-15 p.m. It was completely put out by 6 p.m. The Fire Force personnel ensured that the fire did not spread to the huge trees in the area. Around 20 trainees from Lakshadweep were among those who helped to put out the fire.

One injured

A man was admitted to the General Hospital here tonight with multiple wounds. The police said that Sasidharan, 54, was attacked by a group of women near Edappally railway gate in a dispute over transportation of sand.

The Kochi chapter of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India has elected K.O. Kuriachan as chairman.
