RSS meet from Saturday

By Our Staff Reporter

KOLLAM, JAN. 20. The three-day `Pranteeya karyakarthya shibiram' (State level leadership camp) of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) will begin here from January 24.

A 2.5 lakh sq.ft pandal has been constructed at the Asramam Maidan here to accommodate more than 13,000 swayamsevaks during the shibiram.

The RSS Sar Sangha Chalak, K.S. Sudarshan, will be camping at the venue of the shibiram on all the three days. At a press conference here, the RSS pranteeya karyavah, A.R. Mohan, said that on January 25, Mr. Sudarshan, would address the RSS cadres from the district.

Those attending the shibiram will hold a route march through the city in the evening on January 26. Mr. Sudarshan will also deliver the valedictory address.

Mr. Mohan said that it was first time since 1982 a Sar Sangha Chalak is visiting Kollam. The shibiram is also the first of its kind to be held in the State since 1975.

Mr. Mohan said that the Hindu society was getting marginalised in the State and that the RSS would strive to reverse that trend. He said that the BJP was not the political arm of the RSS and that any controversy generated on the issue of RSS cadres not voting for BJP candidates in election was in reality a fantasy of the media.

He said that, however, RSS cadres do work for the BJP since they are accepted only by that political party. If the CPI(M) extends invitation, then may some RSS cadres would join that party also, he said. The RSS on its part would reciprocate the gesture, he added.
