THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JAN. 20. The leader of the Opposition, V. S. Achuthanandan, has said that the court order directing the Mahatma Gandhi University to start B.Ed. Centres only after getting requisite permission from the National Council for Teacher Education has plunged over 2,000 students into a state of deep anxiety. The court's directive came two months after the courses began in the university. Mr. Achuthanandan said that the situation was the result of the university's neglect in providing basic facilities at its B.Ed. centres. It was doubtful whether the advocates representing the Government/university had properly presented the case before the court, he said. The university was charging a fee of Rs. 20,000 from each student admitted to the course and there were 12 B.Ed. centres functioning under the university, he said.
