Three Godavari projects identified

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, JAN. 20 . The Government and the visiting Austrian team have identified the Godavari-based projects — the Devadula lift irrigation scheme, the Singareddypalli and Dummagudem hydel projects— for immediate execution.

Works on the Devadula project will be formally taken up in Warangal district on Thursday by the Kirloskar consortium which was selected through recent tenders for executing the scheme at a cost of Rs. 844 crores.

The Austrian team favoured the three projects going by three factors — the timeframe for completion, cost-economics and the impact on the environment, according to the Major Irrigation Minister, K. Srihari.

At a press conference after discussions with Mr. Dabringer, leader, and other Australian team members, Mr. Srihari said that the three projects were being taken up as a single unit — as Godavari Phase I — because of "pragmatic considerations."
