KURNOOL, JAN. 20. The District Congress Committee (DCC) created a flutter here on Tuesday by issuing a show-cause notice to the former municipal chairman of Nandyal, SPY Reddy. A few days ago, Mr. SPY Reddy claimed himself to be the candidate for Nandyal Lok Sabha seat and indicated that his close associate, Shilpa Mohan Reddy, would be candidate for Assembly seat. The DCC took objection to the open declaration and said the statement amounted to creating confusion and division among Congress leaders in Nandyal area. The DCC secretary, Sudhakar Babu, in a formal notice to Mr. Reddy asked him to give explanation in seven days.
Rally
Junior doctors, supported by Vishnu Sena, took out a huge rally here on Tuesday to protest against user charges in hospitals and opening of medical colleges in the private sector. The rally was taken out from Kondareddy Burj to the Collectorate where the protesters organised road blockade for some time. The Congress leader, D. Vishnuvardhan Reddy, who led the procession addressed the junior doctors and expressed solidarity with them. Mr. Reddy said the Government was trying to suppress the doctors' movement because it had appeal to entire society. The medical system in the public sector had collapsed because of the user charges. Besides the user charges, the Government planned to bring government hospitals into the fold of individual societies to offload its responsibility. A large number of students from junior and degree colleges took part in the rally. The supporters of Mr. Vishnuvardhan Reddy, who were opposed to user charges, took part in the rally. For the first time, the junior doctors' agitation had mass touch with people from all sections taking part in the protest. Meanwhile the hunger strike by junior doctors continued.
