Cuddapah
By Our Staff Reporter
CUDDAPAH, JAN. 20. Naxalites have been waging a `mindless war' against Governments for three decades, shot dead scores of people and destroyed public and private properties in the State, but failed to achieve any worthwhile goal, said the Cuddapah SP, V.C. Sajjanar, on Tuesday. Addressing a `Praja Chaitanya' sadassu at Rayachoti, the SP called upon naxalites to surrender and assured to rehabilitate them by extending financial assistance and not to book cases against them. The naxalite leaders were taking shelter in cities such as Bangalore and Nagpur and deploying the naxalite cadre to terrorise rural people and resort to extortion of money, he alleged. He maintained that no goal could be achieved through violent and destructive activities and urged them to work with people and the Government in a democratic manner. Recalling the blasting of a telephone exchange at Rayavaram, Mr. Sajjanar said the people were deprived of telephonic communication by the act. He urged the people not to give shelter or food to naxalites. He advised the naxals to serve their families and represent problems to the Government. He asked the people to represent their problems to the police and assured to solve them. The SP inaugurated a free medical camp, where doctors treated nearly 3,000 patients. A photo exhibition of those losing their lives at the hands of naxalites and property damaged was organised. The `Jarguthi' troupe of policemen staged cultural programmes. The Pulivendula DSP, Liaqat Ali Khan, the Rayachoti Urban circle inspector, Naganna, rural CI, Rafiq, Lakkireddipalle CI, Nagabhushanam, SIs, Lions, Rotary Club and Maithri Sangham members participated.
