By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, JAN. 20. Muniswamy (35), an autorickshaw driver, was found murdered in J.P. Nagar police station limits on Tuesday morning.

Muniswamy was hit on his head with iron rods and choppers reportedly by three of his acquaintances on Monday, according to a complaint lodged by his friend, Tyagaraj.

The three assailants, who are yet to be identified and are said to be absconding, went to Muniswamy's house in Ramakrishnanagar on Monday, and took him and Tyagaraj to the terrace of a building nearby. They attacked Muniswamy while Tyagaraj managed to escape.

The motive for the murder is not known. Muniswamy's body was removed from a manhole near Puttenahalli Lake and shifted to Kempegowda Hospital for post mortem. J.P. Nagar police have taken up a case of murder.

Woman cheated: Susheelamma (74), mother of the Lokayukta Public Prosecutor, Shashikanth, was cheated of her gold ornaments worth about Rs. 25,000 by two men in Adugodi police limits on Monday.

Police said she was returning from a temple when a man approached her in the guise of a policeman. He advised her against wearing expensive jewellery and offered to take her home. But he took her to his "senior officer", who "packed" the ornaments in paper. On reaching home, she found that there were only pebbles in the packet. Adugodi police have registered a case of cheating.

Arrested on murder charge: Rajajinagar police have arrested Shanmuga (35) and Srinivas (39) of Prakashnagar in connection with the murder of a rowdy, Dasan, in Rajajinagar recently. The two arrested are rowdies, according to police. Four others — Raja, Manju, Kumar, and Appu — were arrested earlier in connection with the case.

Caught after a chase: Sampangiramnagar police have arrested a person for allegedly trying to run over beat constables on 1st Main, Sampangiramnagar, on Monday midnight.

Police said the constables were patrolling the road when they noticed a gang of four speeding towards them in a van. The constables, who were able to move away from the path of the vehicle, chased the van on their motorcycle. However, near Queen's Statue on Kasturba Road, the van skidded and stopped. While three persons in the van ran away, the constables caught Pasha from Malur.

Goods, vehicle recovered: J.P. Nagar police have recovered gold jewellery, silver articles, a television set, tape recorders, cameras, Walkmans, wrist watches, and autorickshaw spare parts, in all worth about Rs. 5 lakh, and arrested Shankar alias Kulla Shankar (30) of Somanahalli, and Nagaraja alias Naga (24) of Kothanur Dinne Main Road on charges of theft.

D.J. Halli police have arrested Munajir Ahmad alias Munna (25) of Pillanna Garden on the charge of stealing an autorickshaw worth about Rs. 80,000 from Upparpet. The vehicle has been recovered.
