BANGALORE, JAN. 20. The Federation of Karnataka Tanker Truck Owners' Association today called off its one-day-old strike after public sector oil companies here agreed to increase the transportation rate by 16 paise. Over 750 oil tankers were off the roads during the strike. Their owners were demanding higher rates to transport fuel from oil depots at Devangonthi and K.R. Puram to retail outlets.
The strike was withdrawn after prolonged negotiations between the federation and representatives of the oil companies. "The strike has been withdrawn. The transportation rate has been increased by 16 paise. It will now be Rs. 1.06 per km. per kilolitre (kl.)," the federation president, G.R. Shanmugappa, told
Oil terminals were opened on Tuesday evening after the withdrawal of the strike, and normal supplies were restored.
The strike had threatened to cause a severe shortage of petrol and diesel at the city's 350 petrol bunks.
