Letters to the Editor
Sir, The valour displayed by five young girls to save two minors from the clutches of marriage in Haryana is extraordinary indeed. It shows what education and information can do. Shafaat Ahmed, Bhatkal, Karnataka * * * Sir, As these brave girls have proved, social evils are not problems in themselves; it is our lack of dexterity in facing the challenges that is the real problem. The teacher and former village sarpanch who supported the cause too deserve appreciation. Ram Gurbaxani, Vadodara * * * Sir, The support lent by the girls' teacher shows how students' potential can be harnessed in obliterating social evils. R. Sanjeedha Sanofer, Vaniyambadi, T.N. * * * Sir, One way for the older generation to show its appreciation for youngsters is to develop a network through which girls from all parts of India can oppose social evils. Supporting and encouraging the young to be socially aware and progressive is the best way to usher in a new India. P. Dileepan, Hixson, Tennessee
