KOLKATA, JAN. 21. Defending champions Andhra Pradesh and Kerala will lead the charge respectively in the boys' and girls' sections as the 30th edition of the National junior (under-18) volleyball gets underway at Hooghly district's Baidyabati on Thursday. Karnataka, which took the runner-up spot in both sections in the last edition held at Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, will be another potent force among a total of 53 State teams (27 boys, 26 girls) scheduled to participate. The gaining excellence of the junior teams the boys' team finishing runner-up in the World junior meet before winning the Asian youth tournament last year lends a lot of importance to this year's tournament. The National federation has also announced that the selection of the Indian team for upcoming international events would be made based on the performance here. The groupings: Boys: Group A: Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Mizoram, Delhi, Bengal, Madhya Pradesh; Group B: Karnataka, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Goa, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Assam. Group C: Tamil Nadu, Manipur, Uttaranchal, Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Haryana; Group D: Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Bihar, Pondicherry, Maharashtra, Tripura. Girls: Group A: Kerala, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Chandigarh, Manipur, Goa; Group B: Karnataka, Bengal, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Bihar, Tripura. Group C: Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Orissa, Pondicherry, Madhya Pradesh, Assam; Group D: Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jharkhand.
