SRIKAKULAM, JAN. 21. Securing the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development's (NABARD) award for bank linkage for self-help groups (SHG) for the second time in a row, the district is gearing up to set up mahila banks in mandals in the next few months. Work relating to infrastructure and training to leaders of SHGs will be launched soon, according to the district Collector, K. Vijayanand. The Collector, who had received the bank's award for standing second in bank linkage to the SHGs from the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, on January 19 in Hyderabad, said the credit for the performance belonged to bankers, officials and members of SHGs, who worked in a concerted manner. The award for 200l-02 was for linking 11,000 SHGs to banks for financing and for 2002-03 for linking 14,300 groups.
