Consecration celebrations of Ramakrishna Temple begin

BELGAUM, JAN. 21. The five-day celebrations to mark the consecration of the new Sri Ramakrishna Temple at Sri Ramakrishna Mission Ashram on the fort premises began here on Wednesday. The temple, constructed at a cost of Rs. 1.50 crores with the help of the Union and State Governments and devotees and philanthropic institutions and individuals, will be inaugurated on Friday.

There was a festive atmosphere at the ashram with a large number of sadhus and devotees from all over the country and abroad attending the auspicious event.

Swami Bodhamyanand of Chennai inaugurated the celebrations while the inaugural function was presided over by Swami Gautamanandaji Maharaj, Trustee, Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission and President of Ramakrishna Math, Chennai.

Vedic chanting and bhajans preceded the lighting of the lamp to mark the inauguration. This was followed by discourses on topics such as "Sanghavondu Shakti", "Sajana Sanghatane-Samaja Parivarthane" and "Birth of Ramakrishna Order and the significance of a Ramakrishna Monastery", by Swami Jagadatmanandaji Maharaj, President, Ramakrishna Sharadashrama, Ponnampet, Sri Prabhu Channavasava Swamiji of Motagi Math, Athani, and Swami Nikhileswaranandaji Maharaj, Secretary of Vivekanand Memorial, Porbandar, respectively.

There was also a discourse on "Culture leads to Religion-Religion leads to Culture" by Swami Atmaramanandaji Maharaj, President of the Ashram at Coimbatore.

Special pujas, bhajans, prayers, Vedic chantings have been arranged. Purification in the form of Homa, puja, etc., of the temple will be performed on Thursday. Special music programmes have also been arranged.
