MADANAPALLE, JAN. 21. The regional deputy director (Rayalaseema Zone), Women and Child Welfare, M. Abdhi Chandrika has inaugurated Syamasidda Mahila Swayam Sahaya Sangh leaders' training classes at the ICDS project, Madanapalle. Speaking on the occasion she said women have to progress in all fields on a par with men. Ms. Chandrika added that of the newly introduced Swayam Siddha Mahila Sanghs in Rayalaseema area, 300 have been permitted by the Government in Madanapalle, Valmikipuram and Kuppam. The remaining 500 will work in Singamala of Anantapur district, Railway Kodur Kadapa rural project in Cuddapah district, Kurnool Rural, and Nandikotkoor of Kurnool district. The issues that these groups will tackle include superstitions, belief in supernatural powers, sex, health, non-formal education for children, malnutrition, and infanticide. Madanapalle, Nimmanapalle, B. Kothakota, and Kurabalakota Mandals took part in this three-day training programme. Nearly 100 group leaders, and anganwadi workers are to be trained in leadership qualities, and group dynamism. The Central Information Department publicity officer (Rayalaseema), B.D.M. Ambedkar, the Integrated Child Development Services project officer of Madanapalle, Usha Phanikar, the Swayam Siddha supervisors -- A. Sujatha, A. Chenchulakshmi, and I. Ramakka -- and others participated.
