Air Chief visits NCC camp

NEW DELHI JAN.21. Air Chief Marshal, S. Krishnaswamy, visited the NCC Republic Day camp-2004 in Delhi cantonment today.

Krishnaswamy, who himself was an NCC cadet, in an informal chat with the cadets, praised them for their exemplary services at times of national crises. He also visited the motivation hall, the flag area, ship-modelling room, aero modelling room, and interacted with the cadets. NCC Director General, B.N. Bopanna, thanked the Chief of Air Staff for his visit to the camp and said his visit was a source of great encouragement and inspiration to the cadets.

Peru honour for spiritual leader

NEW DELHI JAN.21 . Probably for the first time ever, a spiritual guru, Sant Rajinder Singh Maharaj, received two honorary doctorates in Peru on January 10. The Mayor of Lima, Fabiola Pasapera and the Rector of Universadad Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, Benjamin Boccio La Paz welcomed the spiritual leader.

The doctorate honoured the Sant's efforts in bringing science and spirituality together and facilitating human unity through communication.

IIFT workshop

NEW DELHI JAN.21. The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade organised a one-day workshop on the theme "Mission Talent" at their campus last Tuesday wherein delegates from Human Resource Departments of major industries, both public and private, participated.

The IIFT director, Prabir Sengupta, outlined the objectives of the workshop and summed up the issues. The General Manager of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, A. K. Jain, coordinated the workshop.

Phone numbers transferred

NEW DELHI JAN. 21. About 3,000 telephone numbers of Shadipur Telephone Exchange level "2579" will be transferred to state-of-the-art OCB-283 type of switching system of Karol Bagh D7 exchange at 3 pm on January 22. After the change-over customers availing dynamic STD/ISD facility will be required to re-register their secret code by dialling 123 ABCD ABCD, where ABCD is the secret code. All affected subscribers have already been individually intimated about the changeover. There will be no change in the telephone numbers.

In case of any difficulty subscribers can contact the sub-divisional Engineer Karol Bagh Telephone exchange on Telephone No. 25729622/25859001 or Divisional Engineer (Indoor) Karol Bagh exchange on Telephone No. 25751311.

Centenarian award presented

NEW DELHI JAN.21. Various dignitaries from the field of education, communication, management and law were bestowed the "Centenarian Award" in the memory of the Centenarian Mahaswami of Kanchi at the 10th Centenarian awards ceremony held on January 18 at Rani Seethai Hall, Chennai, according to information received here on Wednesday. Jagadguru Sankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt, Jayendra Sarasvati Swamigal gave away the `Lifetime Achievement' award to the president and chairman of Ritnand Balved Education Foundation, AKC Group, Ashok K. Chauhan while the "Man of the Year" award was given to the Rajya Sabha Member, Dr. K. Kasthurirangan.

Focus on teaching techniques

NEW DELHI JAN.21. Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Technology affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University organised a seminar on " Teaching Techniques and Methodology" on January 17 at their campus with a view to enrich young teachers.

The Principal Secretary, Government of NCT, Department of Training and Technical Education, R.S. Sethi inaugurated the seminar.

During the inauguration, Mr. Sethi emphasised on the quality of education and stressed upon the omission of obsolete courses from the syllabi.

He also emphasised the need for interaction amongst government and private institutions for improved teaching skills.

The Director of Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, Prem Vrat, emphasised that the teaching methodology followed at IIT's could be adopted at other technical institutions.
