PSPB inter-unit tournament from today

BANGALORE, JAN. 21. The country's top amateur golfers in both the men and women's sections will be on view at the Karnataka Golf Association course here from January 22 to 24. With all the nation's top golfers being on the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board's payroll, their turnout at the 24th PSPB inter-unit golf tournament will make the meet a competitive affair.

Simarjeet Singh and Manav Das will be spearheading Oil India's challenge, Keshav Mishra, Gagan Verma and Anitya Chand will lead host Indian Oil Corporation's efforts, Vikrant Chopra, Vikram Rana and L. Selvadurai will prop up holder Oil and Natural Gas Commissions efforts to retain the trophy while Gas Authority of India Limited's Jasjeet Singh, Jaideep Patwardhan and Sandy Lehal, runner-up last year, will be looking to wrest the title this year.

The tournament will be played over three day's with a practice round and stableford format tournament being the first day's fixture. Teams will be mixed on the opening day giving players a chance to interact with their colleagues from the different oil companies.

The main events will be played on a strokeplay basis on January 23 and 24, with the three best scores of a team of five being taken into consideration for the team and individual championships. Leading players on the women's circuit such as Shruti Khanna, Anjali Chopra and Mayali Talwar will also be representing their various employers.

The KGA course has been prepared to ensure some thrilling competition. Mr. Nandan Heblikar, captain of KGA, said the greens will be lightning fast and the fairways well laid out. With the water hazards and bunkers strategically placed, the course will offer some real challenge to the country's top amateur golfers.

A horde of prizes will be up for grabs over the next three days. The top executives in the oil companies will also be part of the tournament. — Our Special Correspondent
