SSC exam as per schedule: Minister

By Our Staff Reporter

NIZAMABAD, JAN. 21. The Minister for School Education, Mandava Venkateswara Rao, has asked tenth class students to be prepared for the annual SSC examinations as per schedule. Speaking to reporters here today, Mr. Venkateswara Rao sought to clear the confusion about postponement of the SSC examination in the event of elections being held sometime in March.

He said that as there is no clear picture on the forthcoming elections, students should not be unduly worried. "Let them prepare for the examination as per schedule without giving any credence to the talk of postponement,'' he added. He expressed confidence that the examinations would be held as per schedule.

He pointed out that only in the event of the polls being held in March, there could be talk of postponement.

He made it clear that the Government was prepared to hold examinations as per schedule. He said work relating to the holding of examinations and preparation of question papers and the safe custody of the same has been worked out.

Mr. Venkateswara Rao also clarified on the delay in completing the B.Ed admissions for this academic year.

He said several colleges are yet to obtain the annual clearance certificate from the National Council for Education Research and Training (NCERT), which is mandatory. Unless the colleges obtain this particular clearance, admissions cannot be completed, he pointed out.

The colleges have been directed to send their appraisal reports to the NCERT so that the work is expedited, he added.

He clarified that the BEd students would not lose an academic year due to the delay. He said that the NCERT had pointed out that as the previous batches are still to pass out, there would be problem of infrastructure, teaching and others facilities.

He said that the BEd admissions would be streamlined by 2005. Mr. Venkateswara Rao, referring to the Language Pandit training admissions, said that the Supreme Court had recently issued guidelines asking the training institutions to fill up 50 per cent of the seats on merit and the other half by the management, which also should be done on merit.

The School Education Minister said that the Government is ready to start the admission process provided the private training institutions toed the Supreme Court line.

He said there should be no confusion about the admissions as the Government had made all arrangements for the process.
