KOCHI, JAN. 21 . The cruise service between Colombo and Vizhinjam, being launched by the Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation (KSINC), will go on stream by the second week of February. The service was earlier scheduled to commence in the last week of December. However, the vessel that was identified by the cruise operator had to be changed in favour of a vessel with better facilies. A 250-passenger capacity new vessel has been chartered by the Colombo-based Golden Cruise Line for the service. Inspection of the new vessel by the Mercantile Marine Department is one of the formalities that has to be completed before the commencement of the cruise service. The cruise service will go on stream despite the objections raised by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, J. Jayalalithaa, that the new service may be used by the Tamil guerillas in Sri Lanka. Ms. Jayalalithaa had drawn the attention of the Union Government to the situation prevailing in the island country and the operations of the LTTE.
