Gopalaswami, new EC

NEW DELHI, JAN. 21. The President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, has appointed the Union Home Secretary, N. Gopalaswami, a Gujarat cadre IAS officer of the 1966 batch, as Election Commissioner. Mr. Gopalaswami will assume charge on February 8. The vacancy was caused by the proposed assumption of charge by T.S. Krishnamurthy as the Chief Election Commissioner.
