HYDERABAD, JAN. 21. The Gulf Oil Corporation unit in the City, which was closed down following an explosion in the Detonating Fuse Plant, which claimed eight lives on November 25, will be reopened on January 23. The factory, which was closed down with the Director of Factories, Andhra Pradesh, issuing prohibitory orders in the wake of the explosion "has now obtained approval for recommencement from the Department of Explosives, Government of India, Director of Factories and the Fire Services Department," the company managing director, S. Pramanik, said in a statement here on Wednesday. He said essential staff from the safety and maintenance wing would carry out safety checks of all machinery from January 23 and the production staff would join duties only after the completion of the safety check process. Mr. Pramanik thanked the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, and various Government departments for making the reopening of production facilities where nearly 1,400 employees were engaged, a reality.
