HYDERABAD, JAN. 21. The Joint Council of Action (JCA) of the Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff of the Aided Degree and Junior Colleges in the State will launch a relay hunger strike at Indira Park here from January 29 in protest against the "abnormal delay" by the State Government in solving the problems of aided college employees. In a statement here on Wednesday, the JCA chairman, Y. B. Satyanarayana and the secretary-general, G. Sridhar Reddy, said a mass rally would also be taken out from Sundarayya Park, Baghlingampally to Indira Park on February 4. The agitation would be intensified if the State Government fails to solve their problems, they said. Deploring the negligent attitude of the Government, they urged the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, to intervene and settle their just and long-pending problems. They also condemned the discriminatory policy of the State Government for denying the NET/SLET exemption to the in-service lecturers of aided degree colleges, which had been exempted for lecturers of Government degree colleges. They took objection to changing the 1965 pattern of the non-teaching staff in aided colleges, which was adversely affecting the promotional chances of in-service employees, employment opportunities of educated employees and the smooth functioning of these colleges. While the lecturers of Government colleges have been paid the 1996 UGC pay fixation arrears in full with interest, the lecturers of aided colleges were not paid their due of 38.4 per cent of the total arrears.
Interim relief
The State Teachers' Union (STU) has appreciated the Government's decision to appoint the Pay Revision Committee but questioned the decision not to grant any interim relief. P. Subba Reddy, president, wanted t 20 per cent interim relief .
