NEW DELHI, JAN. 21. In about a month's time, Delhi Development Authority is expected to approve the final design and financial details of the proposed underpass at Chungi Crossing on Noida More which being an interchange would provide signal-free travel between ITO and Mayur Vihar. The construction of the underpass, which had been envisaged a couple of years ago, would only begin after the Sub-Group of the Technical Committee of DDA, constituted to look into its construction, would receive the final clarification on the "surrounding circulation area'' from the consultants to the project, RITES. A senior official of the Traffic and Transportation Unit of DDA said while the clarifications have taken a long time coming, the Authority is hopeful of receiving them within a month now and thereafter, the details of how the project would be implemented would be worked out. The sub-group had earlier evaluated the scheme and suggested some modifications to the Public Works Department, which would be undertaking the construction. Also, the DDA had worked out details as per the Master Plan and in keeping with rehabilitation requirements to ensure speedy approval from all concerned authorities. As per the detailed drawings of the project, an underpass would be built along the Pushta Road and beneath Vikas Marg. It would provide uninterrupted flow of traffic on the Pushta Road. With the Noida More flyover already complete and the rail-overhead bridge between the School Block and Ganesh Nagar due to be completed in six months, this underpass would provide direct access between Gandhi Nagar and Mayur Vihar as well. The underpass is in keeping with the plan to make Pushta Road a sort of a "ring'' around East Delhi and give it the shape of "Eastern Ring Road'' by connecting it to the Wazirabad Road, Road No. 56 connecting Shahadara to Ghazipur, and National Highway-24. The "underpass'' would have four loops that would allow for stoppage-free travel. Each of the carriageways is proposed to be 18 metres wide while the loops will have a width of 9 metres each.
