BANGALORE, JAN. 21. A 25-year-old motorcyclist was fatally knocked down by a two-wheeler near Hoskerehalli Cross in Girinagar Police Station limits on Monday night in a hit-and-run case. The victim, H.R. Ravikumar, died on the way to a hospital. The Banashankari Traffic police are on the look out for the vehicle and its rider. Arrested in kidnap case: The J.C. Nagar Police have arrested Shabbier Ahmed (27) of Neelasandra on charges of kidnapping the son of a businessman, on Monday. Shiraj, 12-year-old son of Nazir Ahmed of J.C. Nagar, owner of a paint shop, was kidnapped from his house. The accused was a worker in the same shop and allegedly committed the crime with the help of two others. Shabbier Ahmed then allegedly demanded a ransom of Rs. five lakh from Mr. Nazir Ahmed. In a swift action, the police restored the child to its parents. Robbery bid foiled: Yelahanka Police have arrested three persons who were allegedly planning to waylay and rob people and seized weapons from a place near a godown at Jakkur Road on Tuesday. The names of the arrested were given as Prem (20) and Y.N. Murthy (19), both of L.K. Colony, and Raj (21) of Gandhinagar. They were hiding in an autorickshaw in the early hours of Tuesday, the police said. Electrical wires seized: Yelahanka Police have arrested two persons allegedly involved in stealing electricity wires and aluminium material and seized material worth Rs. two lakh on Tuesday. Police said Chand Shah (23) and Muzhid (25) of Penukonda taluk from Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh along with Sikandar Pasha and Munna were caught allegedly stealing wires from electricity poles in Yelahanka and Chikkajala Police Station limits. With their arrest, police have solved three cases of theft. RI for assault: The 12th Additional Sessions Judge, Somashekar, has sentenced Shrinivas (30) to 14 years rigorous imprisonment, for allegedly assaulting a woman on Monday. Shrinivas assaulted the woman in her house at Lakshmipur in Bangalore Rural district in October 1997. Ramanagaram Rural police had registered a case. The judge also fined him Rs. 5,000.
