Letters to the Editor
Sir, It is a wise decision by the Congress to face the Lok Sabha elections in alliance with the Left and other secular parties. At last the main Opposition party has realised the necessity to join others to defeat the designs of the Bharatiya Janata Party and its opportunistic partners. The NCP stand to keep in abeyance the issue of Sonia Gandhi's foreign origin at least till the Lok Sabha elections are over is most welcome.
T.R. Menon,
* * * Sir, If the BJP-led NDA can get a "sufficient majority" to form the government, as the party leaders claim, the question of Ms. Gandhi becoming the Prime Minister does not arise at all and as such one fails to understand the logic behind the BJP's hue and cry over her foreign origin. The BJP president, Venkaiah Naidu, has suggested to the Congress that it should ensure an issue-based contest. Was he referring to the "issue" of foreign origin?
P.V.N. Nambiar,
* * * Sir, The DMK has almost finalised its alliance with the Congress. Will it get an assurance from Ms. Gandhi that the Congress will do justice to Tamil Nadu in the Cauvery issue and ask her to persuade S.M. Krishna to release water now as a goodwill gesture?
T.S. Padmanabhan,
* * * Sir, The Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani's telephonic conversation with the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, is a pointer to the BJP's desperate efforts to forge an alliance with the AIADMK ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Nagarajan Seethalakshmi,
Hyderabad
