Letters to the Editor
Sir, I refer to your editorial, "The Gorshkov package" (Jan. 22 ). As a former commissioning crew member of the INS Vikrant and later its flight deck chief, I have the following to say. The Gorshkov deal is gargantuan but the view that it is a second-hand ship is not correct. Even when INS Vikrant was procured, it was a ship of World War II vintage. It was totally refurbished with a then modern BS 10 catapult and the latest arresting gear. The Gorshkov deal appears to be based on sound thinking.
K.R.A. Narasiah,
Hyderabad
