CHITRADURGA, JAN. 22. Tension prevailed in Holalkere on Thursday as a group demanded the police to release three "fake businessmen", who were cheating the public by selling household articles at half price. The three businessmen were arrested and household articles worth Rs. one lakh from them. Police gave the names of the three as Chidambar, Raju Velappan, and Vaidyanathan all from Tamil Nadu. A shop was opened in Holalkere and it offered household articles at half price. The customers were told to first register their names by paying the price of the article they wanted to buy. The three allegedly planned to make good with the money after some days. Suspecting foul play, G.B. Chabbi, Superintendent of Police, raided the shop and arrested the three persons. The customers picketed the police station and demanded the release of the accused, as they had to give them the household articles for which money had been paid. The efforts to convince the mob turned futile. Some miscreants threw stones at the police station.
