Two ex-MLAs die of heart attack

CUDDAPAH, JAN. 22. Two former MLAs of Railway Kodur (SC) constituency in Cuddapah district, Nudiventi Venkatasubbaiah (65) and Gonthu Sriramulu (80), died of heart attack in Kodur and Chitvel towns respectively around Wednesday midnight.

Venkatasubbaiah was elected MLA of Railway Kodur as the Janata Party candidate in 1978 and joined the Congress in 1982. The second son of N. Penchalaiah who served as Kodur MLA for two terms as the Swantantra Party candidate, Venkatasubbaiah unsuccessfully contested as Congress candidate in 1985. He is survived by wife, three sons and five daughters. Known for being instrumental in the formation of NVS Girijan Colony for Scheduled Tribes in Venkatareddipalle panchayat in the constituency, he had been practising medicine and actively moved about despite being a diabetic.

Gonthu Sriramulu was elected twice as the Congress MLA of Kodur in 1972 and the 1977 bypolls. He quit the job of Revenue Inspector and joined politics. He is survived by wife and children. The two former MLAs were cremated in their native places on Thursday evening.

The Minister for Woman and Child Welfare, S. Saraswathi, Rajampet MP, Gunipati Ramaiah, former Rajampet MP, A. Sai Prathap, former DCC president, Sheik Hussain, and other leaders visited Kodur and Chitvel, laid wreaths on the bodies and condoled their death. The former CLP Leader, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, offered his condolences to the bereaved families over telephone.
