Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, JAN. 22. Mata Amrithanandamayi has said the present trend of mixing religion and politics was not right. Speaking at a reception organised in Pondicherry on Wednesday, she expressed concern over growing violence and terrorism in the country. "All religions should coexist and work towards the development of the society and country. We should remember that human beings are more important than politics or religion. Love is religion and it does not have any caste, creed or community, especially so in these troubled times. We need to give priority to Dharma and values," she said, calling for the revival of traditional family values in the country. She launched `Amritha Nidhi' pension scheme for the poor and destitute. The Assembly Speaker, M.D.R. Ramachandran, distributed Rs 110 each to 15 persons under the scheme. She also announced that she was ready to build houses for the poor free of cost. The Minister of State for Defence, O. Rajagopal, released a book on Mata Amrithanandamayi. The Pondicherry Lt. Governor, N.N. Jha, said Mata Amrithanandamayi's visit would bring peace and amity between different sections of people. The Education Minister, K. Lakshminarayanan, said she was an example of simplicity and love and was working to eradicate differences between people through the language of love.
