Agriculture varsity to get a facelift

KASARAGOD, JAN. 22. The Kerala Agricultural University would soon get the much-needed face-lift with a four-member experts' committee, constituted by the State Government recently, recommending steps for its restructuring.

The former Rubber Board chairman, Lalithambika Antharjanam, would head the committee. She has also served as the Agricultural Production Commissioner. The other members of the committee are: the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University vice-chancellor, C. Ramaswamy, the Senior Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the Federal Republic of Germany, K. P. Prabhakaran Nair, and the Agriculture Consultant, University of California, K. Laxmanan.

Mr. Prabhakaran Nair was optimistic of the outcome. "I am sure that we could do justice to our mission." Though the terms of reference and other details of the commission were yet to be known, the committee would mainly focus on areas that would help revamp and restructure the varsity, he said.

Meanwhile, a former Vice-Chancellor of the varsity, K. V. Peter, said the committee was expected to complete its task within three months. "Times have changed and we have to modify our strategies in every sphere and agriculture was no exception," he said.
