PATHANAMTHITTA, JAN. 22. The State Land Use Board Commissioner, Alphons Kannanthanam, has said that the youth in the State should concentrate on the farm sector as the country's future is largely dependent on agriculture development. Addressing the District Farm Club meet at the Royal Auditorium here today, Mr. Kannanthanam said that the scope of the IT revolution in solving the State's unemployment problem was limited. According to him, only a systematic agriculture revolution can strengthen the economy and social security even in a State like Kerala. Mr. Kannanthanam said that it was high time a concerted effort was made to protect the river system and to conserve the water resources. Otherwise, Kerala would turn into a desert in the near future, he said. He stressed the importance of rainwater harvesting, saying that it would take only Rs. 14,000 to harvest 14,000 litres of rainwater. He called upon the people to set up ferro-cement tanks for collecting rainwater from the roof. Digging rain pits in the land would help raising the ground water table, he added.
