ALAPPUZHA, JAN. 22. The SNDP Yogam general secretary, Vellappally Natesan, has said that the State Government had neglected the majority community in the State while sanctioning B.Ed. colleges.
Speaking to
``The Education Minister, Nalakath Soopy, gave scant regard to the applications of managements which had prior experience in running education institutions while sanctioning B.Ed. colleges,'' said Mr. Vellappally. The previous LDF Government used to engage in discussions with private managements before sanctioning colleges. ``Even Mr. Soopy had participated in such discussions representing the IUML,'' noted Mr. Natesan.
``But I am pained at the fact that Mr. Soopy did not bother to seek the opinion of managements when he became the Minister,'' said Mr. Natesan. He said while the application of Palluruthy SNDP Yogam-which had the necessary infrastructure and prior experience in running educational institutions-was rejected while sanctioning B.Ed. colleges, many applicants who did not have primary facilities were sanctioned colleges.
Even the M.Ed College sanctioned for the yogam was later cancelled, said Mr. Vellappally. The SNDP Yogam general secretary demanded cancellation of the present list of B.Ed. colleges and preparation of a fresh list in a transparent manner.
Earlier, a BJP delegation which included BJP national secretary, Padmanabhacharya, and State organisation secretary, P. P. Mukundan, visited Mr. Natesan.
Mr. Natesan said the delegation exchanged views on the current social issues in the State. ``This is of special relevance in the light repeated neglect of demands of the majority community,'' said the SNDP Yogam general secretary.
