By Our Staff Correspondent
DEHRA DUN, JAN. 22. The Congress-led Government in Uttaranchal Pradesh has announced decisions aimed at wooing the electorate before the impending general elections. The Government has decided to fill 7,500 posts of teachers. The selection process has already begun and candidates are likely to get jobs within two months. Of these, 2,600 posts will be of primary school teachers while the rest will be taken as `shiksha mitras' at the block level. This is the biggest recruitment drive since Narain Dutt Tiwari took over as Chief Minister two years ago. The Cabinet has also decided to appoint 7000 `gram preharis' (village watchmen) for guarding villages. With an eye on the younger generation, it has been decided to reserve 85 per cent seats in engineering colleges for students hailing from the State. Doctors working on contract with the Government will get Rs 2000 more per month and the residents of Rawain Jaunpur area have been accorded an OBC status. For women, a 33 per cent reservation in elections to the mandi parishads has been made. Attempts are also being made to fill up a large number of vacancies in various departments, it was told.
