CHENNAI, JAN. 22. There are conflicting claims on a Rs. 1,000-crore private hospital-cum-medical college project proposed to be established here. While the member of a court-appointed committee managing the affairs of the Devaki Hospital Limited, A. Rathnasabapathy, said the hospital board or the general body never passed any resolution for funds diversion, Chitra Chokalingam, reiterating that she continued to be the managing director, said the board members were informed of the project. She said, "the High Court had not deprived her of the Managing Director position." Attempts were being made to give an impression that she was not the managing director anymore, she added. Dr. Rathnasabapathy, however, said the High Court on December 17, 2003, superseded the board and appointed a managing committee under the chairmanship of the senior advocate, A.L. Somayaji. While Ms. Chokalingam said she had surrendered the organ transplantation licence to the Director of Medical Services on August 8, 2003, Dr. Rathnasabapathy said an enquiry by the Additional Director of Medical Services "could not find a single instance of irregularity."
