Forecast: Partly cloudy sky. Minimum temperature would be 19 degree Celsius. At Waltair, the maximum temperature was 27.6 degree Celsius and minimum was 19.4 degree Celsius on Thursday, while humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 78 per cent and at 5.30 p.m. was 75 per cent.

At Airport, the maximum and minimum temperatures were 28.8 degree Celsius and 16.3 degree Celsius respectively, while humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 63 per cent and at 5.30 p.m. was 66 per cent. The maximum and minimum temperatures at the Dolphin's Nose were 27.8 degree Celsius and 18.0 degree Celsius respectively. Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 67 per cent.

Seminar on service tax

A seminar on service tax will be conducted for Rent-a-Cab operator service in the office of the Commissioner of Central Excise and Customs, Central Excise Building, port area, on Friday at 3 p.m.

All the procedural formalities relating to service tax payment and filing of returns would be explained in the seminar, according to Commissioner of Central Excise and Customs, Ram Prakash.

Bank ATMs opened

The Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) of Syndicate Bank were inaugurated on Thursday by the Dredging Corporation of India Director, G.G. Rao, at the DCI Extension Counter and by Andhra University Vice-Chancellor, Y.C. Simhadri, at Chinna Waltair. The Total Computerisation Branches were inaugurated at both the places by the bank's Executive Director, K.M. Seth.

Selected for R-Day parade

P. Rajeswari, a student of Dr.V.S. Krishna Government College and a Military wing NCC cadet, has been selected to participate in the Republic Day parade in New Delhi.

Nominated

Beesetti Nookeswara Rao has been nominated as vice-president of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) Department of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), according to the department chairman.

Securitisation Act helps

The strict implementation of the Securitisation Act has helped in the recovery of bad debts to the tune of Rs. 5 crores in the zone, said the zonal manager of the Bank of India, J.R.V. Prasad.

Presiding over a managers' conference of the bank here on Wednesday, he directed the managers to concentrate more on recovery of bad debts. He said that all the 43 branches in the zone would be computerised by March end and added that ATMs would be opened in Visakhapatnam and Guntur by the same time. The Chief Manager, M.S.I. Kumar, spoke.

Sriramulu, a native of Anakapalle, has been selected to the National Organisation of Bank Workers, according to the general secretary of the AP Bank Workers Organisation, B.N. Sarma.
