The maximum temperature recorded in the city was 28.7 degrees Celsius and the minimum 18.3 degrees Celsius. Relative humidity which was 82 per cent dipped to 66 per cent by evening.

Following are the prevailing per kilogram market prices of various essential commodities in the city according to the Vijaywada Chamber of Commerce and Industry: Groundnut oil (Rs 54), palmolein oil (Rs 44.25), sunflower oil (Rs53), tamarind-flower variety (Rs 18-22), tamarind-karipuli variety (Rs 27-30), chillies (Rs 37-40), rice-2716 (Rs11 to Rs 11.50), rice super fine (Rs13-13.50), samba masoori (Rs13.50-Rs 14),black gram (Rs 19) and kandi pappu (Rs27)

Talent test

The Bhashyam Publich School has informed that the Bhashyam Talent Test-2004 in Telugu and English will be held at Guntur and Vijayawada on February 1 from 10 am to 12.30 pm.

The talent test paper contains 150 multiple choice bits (maths-75, physical science-50 and natural science-25).

Sports meet

The following teachers of LPCT Gujarati Vidyalaya have secured first and second positions in the team events of ball badminton and shuttle badminton in the two day 64th Grig Memorial Teachers Sports Meet held at the M Basavapunnaiah Stadium: G Papa, S Rajyslakshmi, J Grace Mariam, B Sanjeevani and D A Lakshmi Kumari. Correspondent of the school, Atul Shah, congratulated the staff on their peformance.

Kaleswara Rao anniversary

The City Congress Committee on Thursday celebrated the 122nd birth anniversary of former State Assembly speaker I Kaleswara Rao at the Andhra Ratna Bhavan.

City Congress chief K Buchi Babu and others, who garlanded the portrait, recalled his contribution for the upliftment of the SCs, STs, BCs and other backward communities.

The Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1, Railway Colony, Satyanarayanapuram has invited applications from students seeking admission to pre-primary and class 1.Only nominal fees will be collected from students.
