THENI, JAN. 22. The Theni unit of the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the district administration are preparing for the visit of the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, who is expected to inaugurate development projects in the Kadamalaigundu-Mayiladumparai union during February. The Collector, Atul Anand, yesterday formally erected a wooden pole to put up a mega pandal at the function venue. The Public Works Minister, O. Paneerselvam, along with district-level AIADMK office-bearers, had finalised the venue at Rajendra Nagar, near Gandamanur in Andipatti taluk. Party sources said the Chief Minister was expected to visit Andipatti on February 5. For their part, officials of various departments, including Revenue and Social Welfare, are preparing a list of beneficiaries and have completed development works including new buildings, sanitary complexes, group houses, percolation tanks and checkdams. The District Rural Development Agency has directed all contractors to complete pending projects early. Senior leaders in the AIADMK are sorting out differences among cadres. Inner-party conflicts intensified following selection of office-bearers for all unions in the district. (A section of partymen attacked the car of the Periakulam MP, T.T.V. Dinakaran, and assaulted the Rajya Sabha member, Thanga Thamizsevan, here last Saturday).
