HYDERABAD, JAN. 22. The Begumpet police have arrested a person, S. Sripada Surryanarayana Murthy, on the charge of duping 24 unemployed youths by collecting Rs. 4.5 lakhs in cash with false promises of providing them jobs in Singapore. Two others accused of cheating the youths -- -- Laxmi, wife of Murthy, and Mir Ahmed Ali - were at large. According to a complaint lodged by K. Venugopalmurthy of Vanasthalipuram, Murthy had set up a company christened `Factor Corporation and Education Consultant' in Begumpet and published advertisements in newspapers inviting applications for jobs six months ago. The trio collected Rs. 25,000 per head from 24 candidates assuring them jobs in Singapore. Two of them -- Deepthi and Subrahmanyam -- handed over passports to the trio. However, the youths grew suspicious as Murthy failed to provide them any documents on January 14, as promised. When they demanded him to return the money, he allegedly lodged a complaint accusing them of trying to kidnap him. During investigation, the police found the complaint lodged by Murthy was false and took him into custody after verifying facts. Following persuasion by the Begumpet Assistant Commissioner of Police, B. Reddenna, Murthy returned the money he had collected from 19 candidates. "We are looking out for the absconding persons," he said.
