NEW DELHI, JAN. 22. Four persons, who were allegedly involved in cases of robbery, were arrested by the Special Staff of the South-West Delhi police on Wednesday. Two country-made firearms were recovered from them. According to the police, the Special Staff were investigating some robbery cases when they came to know that one Chhota Raja, son of a retired Delhi police assistant sub-inspector, was committing crimes along with his accomplices. Further probe revealed that he and his accomplice, Usman, would come to a park at Mayapuri, following which the police intercepted and arrested them. At their instance, the police arrested their two other accomplices, Javed Ali and Mohammad Zaid. During interrogation, they confessed to their involvement in at least 35 cases. They disclosed that they were assembling in the Mayapuri park to commit another robbery. Raja, who earlier used to supply illicit liquor bought from Rajasthan and Haryana, disclosed that in 2002, he had shot dead his rival, Anil, a registered bad character of Shakarpur police station. After coming out of jail last year, Raja formed a gang by roping in the criminals active in the Walled City. Some of them have been identified as Shahnawaj, Zaid, Talib, Sajid, Nadeem, Naim Jaffrewalan, Rehan, Suhaib, Arshad, Aslam, Wajid, Salim and Kallu. The gang committed robberies and snatching at Sarojini Nagar, R.K. Puram, Dwarka, Shakarpur, New Ashok Nagar, Darya Ganj, I.P. Estate, Mayur Vihar, Preet Vihar, Vivek Vihar and Kasmere Gate. The gang members would commit robbery in congested places and used stolen vehicles for that purpose. They would dispose of the stolen jewellery to jewellers of the Walled City. The police said they were trying to recover the stolen goods.
