NEW DELHI, JAN. 22. A 22-year-old man who had allegedly robbed a young man of cash, driving licence and car stereo near his house was caught red-handed by local residents but not before he had injured the victim and his brother at Paharganj in Central Delhi on Wednesday night. According to the police, Ajay Sharma (25), a resident of Laxmi Narain Gali at Chuna Mandi in Paharganj, was on way to his house after parking the car of his employer behind Chitragupta Road when three men intercepted him. They whipped out knives and forced Ajay to part with Rs. 2,500 in cash, his driving licence and the car stereo he was carrying. However, Ajay raised an alarm which was heard by his brother, Amar (23), who had just come out of his house nearby. He rushed to help Ajay but the robbers injured both of them. By then several area residents had gathered after hearing the commotion. They chased the trio and caught one of them, while the other two managed to escape. The man, identified as Mausam, a resident of Majnu Ka Tila in North Delhi, was badly beaten up by the area residents before being handed over to the police. He was later admitted to Lady Hardinge Medical College Hospital. Ajay and Amar were discharged after first aid. A case of robbery has been registered at Paharganj police station and further investigations are on to trace the other two absconding accused.
Woman beaten to death
A 21-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries after her husband allegedly hit her with sticks in an inebriated state at Sultanpuri in North-West Delhi on Tuesday night. According to the police, Subodh Pandey, a resident of Sultanpuri, used to beat his wife, Munni Devi, over petty issues after consuming alcohol. On Tuesday night too, Subodh came to house in an inebriated state and began beating up Munni over some petty issue. Munni had fractured leg and other serious injuries on her body. Later, she succumbed to her injuries. Meanwhile, Sultanpuri police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and arrested Subodh.
