Orderly held for harassing nurses

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, JAN. 22. A 36-year-old nurse orderly, who had allegedly been sexually harassing nurses at LNJP Hospital, attached with Maulana Azad Medical College, and had become a threat for their safety, has been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police. The accused had not only been harassing and intimidating them by even entering their houses, but also running an unauthorised gymnasium within the hospital premises.

According to the police, Ms. Raj Bala, Assistant Nursing Superintendent of Surgery Department of LNJP Hospital, reported the matter to the Anti-Kidnapping Section of the Crime Branch. She told the police that the accused, Anil Kumar, who used to live in the hospital premises, was proving to be a nuisance for the nurses.

About four days back, Anil reportedly misbehaved and abused a nurse on night duty in Surgery ward. The nurse made an entry about the harassment in the Report Register. Ms. Raj Bala came across the report and decided to send the complaint to her seniors. Anil came to know about this and began targeting her. He abused her in the office and then went to her house to threaten her of dire consequences. He did not stop at that and kept targeting her in the hospital every now and then. Finally, Ms. Raj Bala decided to report the matter to the Crime Branch. A case was registered and Anil was arrested on Wednesday.

The interrogation of the accused revealed that he had been working in the hospital for a long time and had earned a bad name among the female staff and other employees. He also runs a gymnasium in the hospital premises unauthorisedly, which he used to supervise during the daytime. The police believe that Anil may be having his way in the hospital as his brother was active in union politics. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Deependra Pathak, said the activities of Anil would be scrutinised further.

Meanwhile, Anil has been booked for outraging the modesty of a woman, threatening, wrongful restraint and trespassing with the intention to assault and further investigations are on.
